5 factors in designing a logo

Updated: Jan 12

A logo is a face for your customers to recognise. Your logo is what decides the whole of your other marketing material.

To create a memorable identity, your logo, business cards, letterhead, brochures, web site should all have a common theme that your customer can instantly recognize and understand what’s your business is about. Once you decide on a final logo all your branding will follow the theme you have chosen.

Make it appropriate

Your logo should be an appropriate reflection of what your business is and suitable for its audience. A well designed logo doesn’t always have to say what the company does, your name, mission statement and marketing materials can do that. A logo can be simple, abstract or complex and still make a point.

Easily readable

Fancy or ornate fonts that can be difficult to read should be avoided or used very cautiously. The use of heavy fonts, gradient, shading or other effects can be very distracting and make the logo hard to read or be used in some formats, such as web, print and social media.

When we design your logo we make sure when converted to single or solid colours it is still effective and can be easily identified to the name and brand. We create space and like white space to provide clean lines to the image.

Timeless and memorable

You need a design that is easily remembered and recognisable, that’s why sometimes the simplest logos are the best. You are also setting your business up for a long time, so make sure it’s not a design that will outdate with moving trends and styles. Choosing the right design is important to keep modern, you don’t want your logo to look old fashioned in years to come.

Many logos are produced in full colour, and they look fantastic. We always make sure the logo looks perfect when it is shown in black or white as you may need to show it in this format for certain promotional materials or supplies you may need.

If you consider the above and make sure the logo is about you, then will you have a creative logo that can be used in all of your brand and marketing. Its all about trust, customers trust people who they feel they know. Grab their attention and make them want to deal with you as a business
